Philippe de Rougemont (1891-1965)

Born in Lille, de Rougemont studied in Paris at the Académie Delecluse from 1912-17, where was a contemporary of Cedric Morris. Whilst in Paris he met his Swedish wife, Sigrid Wahlström, who was then studying under Fernand leger and Mauris Denis at the Académie Ranson. The couple moved to Stockholm in 1919 where de Rougemont established a studio as a portrait and figurative painter. He enjoyed a successful career painting the great and good of Sweden and exhibited commercially with his wife and Stig Jonzon amongst others. His paintings hang in the collection of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Maritime Museum in Gothenburg.
